Renewable + Recycled Insulation

When it comes to insulation products the unique molecular structure at the heart of every DuPont™ Sorona® polymer fiber provides a suite of remarkable performance benefits. While the inherent low modulus enables a soft feel, the smooth helical crimp of the bi-component staple fiber can help the insulation maintain its loft wash after wash. By blending Sorona® polymer fibers with other fiber types from down to recycled polyester the optimized combinations can be softer, warmer, and lighter.

At the DuPont™ Sorona® brand Slow Food, Slow Fashion event held on September 11th on Angel Island, California, a new range of insulation products from South Korean manufacturer YOUNGONE Corporation, highlighted how designers today have the freedom to choose more sustainable, higher-performance material options – ones that are better for the environment without compromising performance.

The YOUNGONE products marketed under the name, ECOLoft™ eco-elite insulation combine the benefits of both partially plant-based Sorona® fibers as well as REPREVE® recycled polyester fibers. The ECOLoft™ eco-elite insulation collection is the first post-consumer recycled product that also incorporates bio-based materials for innovative, breakthrough insulation.

The garments showcased on the models with the breathtaking San Francisco Bay in the background, use a special vertical lapped product, ECOLoft™ ActiVe insulation. This vertically lapped insulation combines the warmth-to-weight of down with breathability that is defining a new category of padding and garment design options. Ecoloft™ ActiVe SR features more recycled + renewable content than industry peers, improved vapor management while maintaining warmth, and the compressibility and soft comfort that is ideal for life’s active adventures.

ECOLoft™ ActiVe eco-elite insulation allows sweat to move away from the body to maintain a best in class next-to-skin microclimate. The vertical-lapped construction of Sorona® and REPREVE® fibers gives the padding resilient loft as well as resistance to heat loss - when wet or dry. These garments feel like they are filled with down but with the added benefit of breathability, meaning sweat vapor can always escape making the perfect jacket for the hitting the ski slopes to strolling along the fine sand on Angel Island’s unsung beaches.
