Sorona for Spandex Replacement
There are certain fabrics you reach for every morning. They’re the fabrics you live in, the fabric that make you look good and can take you anywhere you want to go. With the natural quality of Sorona® fabrics, clothing becomes effortlessly soft and endlessly flexible. They are designed to inspire and move with you. These are the fabrics that were emphasized as models walked the sand-filled beaches at the DuPont™ Sorona® brand Slow Food, Slow Fashion event held on September 11th on Angel Island, California. Everything from high end gowns to athletic apparel as well as your most comfortable linen shirt and everyday trousers made its way among the guests.
What may have surprised guests is the stretch garments that did not contain spandex (or elastane). Life is too short to wear uncomfortable clothes so we want them to stretch and move with us but we also want clothes that last. The life of a garment may be extended by replacing spandex with Sorona® fibers. Stretch from some Sorona® fabrics doesn't breakdown overtime, with heat, UV rays, or chlorine exposure meaning clothes continue to look, feel, and perform great each time you wear them.
There is no need to compromise on performance to achieve a more eco-conscious product. Sorona® is partially bio-based and has an efficient manufacturing process. Unlike spandex, Sorona® is recyclable in any normal polyester recycling stream, creating garments that have a more responsible end of life story. It is the next big thing in stretch. And no, we're not talking about a new yoga move. We're talking about replacing spandex (or elastane) with Sorona® fibers to achieve permanent, mechanical stretch and recovery with a better-for-the-planet profile.
